His journey into the world of puppetry began at a young age, where he captivated audiences on local television children's shows in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. Clash's passion for puppetry led him to join the cast of Captain Kangaroo in the early nineteen eighties, paving the way for his groundbreaking work on Sesame Street starting in nineteen eighty-four.

As the fifth puppeteer to bring Elmo to life, Clash not only performed the beloved character but also took on the roles of executive producer and director for the show.
