Kevin Jan Magnussen, known affectionately as K-Mag, is a prominent Danish racing driver born on October 5, 1992, in Roskilde. He is the son of Jan Magnussen, a celebrated four-time 24 Hours of Le Mans class-winner and former Formula One driver. Kevin's journey in motorsport began in karting, and he quickly progressed through the ranks, clinching his first championship in the 2008 Danish Formula Ford Championship.
In 2009, Magnussen showcased his talent by finishing as the runner-up in the Formula Renault NEC, followed by another second-place finish in the British Formula 3 International Series in 2011. His remarkable performance in the Formula Renault 3.5 series led him to win the championship in 2013 while driving for DAMS, solidifying his reputation as a rising star in the racing world.
Magnussen's Formula One career commenced in 2014 when he signed with McLaren, partnering with Jenson Button. He made an impressive debut at the Australian Grand Prix, finishing second and marking the highest position for a debutant since Jacques Villeneuve in 1996. After a brief stint with Renault in 2016 and a successful period with Haas from 2017 to 2020, where he achieved a career-best ninth in the World Drivers' Championship in 2018, he transitioned to the IMSA SportsCar Championship in 2021.
In 2022, Magnussen made a return to Haas, replacing Nikita Mazepin, and achieved his first pole position at the São Paulo Grand Prix. He continued to race for Haas in 2023 and 2024, becoming the first driver since Romain Grosjean to receive a race ban after the Italian Grand Prix. Throughout his Formula One career, he recorded one pole position, three fastest laps, and one podium finish, while also holding the record for the most career starts without leading a lap.
As of 2025, Magnussen has returned to sportscar racing, joining BMW as a factory driver, further expanding his illustrious career in motorsport.
