Originally hailing from New York, Saunderson relocated to Belleville, Michigan at the tender age of nine. It was in this suburb of Detroit that he attended Belleville High School, where he formed lasting friendships with fellow music pioneers Juan Atkins and Derrick May. Together, they became known as the Belleville Three, a trio credited with pioneering the techno movement.
