Kevin Wimmer, born on November 15, 1992, is an accomplished Austrian professional footballer who currently plays as a centre back for Slovan Bratislava. His journey in professional football began with LASK, where his impressive performances caught the attention of scouts, leading to a transfer to the German club 1. FC Köln in June 2012.
During the 2013–14 season, Wimmer played a pivotal role in Köln's defense, contributing to a remarkable achievement of setting a new 2. Bundesliga record by conceding only twenty goals, which ultimately secured the team's promotion to the Bundesliga. Following a solid debut season in Germany's top flight, he made a significant move to the Premier League, joining Tottenham Hotspur for a fee of four point three million pounds.
At Tottenham, Wimmer faced stiff competition for a starting position, primarily due to the outstanding form of teammates Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen. After two seasons in North London, he transferred to Stoke City in August 2017 for a fee of eighteen million pounds. However, his time at Stoke was marred by inconsistent performances, leading to limited playing opportunities.
To regain his form, Wimmer embarked on a series of loan spells, first joining Hannover 96 for the 2018–19 season, followed by a stint at Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron in 2019–20, and finally Karlsruher SC in 2020–21. Through these experiences, Wimmer has continued to develop his skills and adapt to different playing styles across various leagues.
