Khadija al-Salami

Khadija al-Salami, born in 1966, is a pioneering figure in the film industry, recognized as the first female film producer and director from Yemen. Her remarkable journey has taken her from her homeland to Paris, France, where she continues to create impactful cinema.

Throughout her career, al-Salami has garnered significant acclaim, receiving nominations and awards at prestigious film festivals, including the Dubai International Film Festival and the Vesoul Asian Film Festival. Her work not only showcases her talent but also highlights the stories and struggles of women in the Arab world.

One of her most notable achievements is the semi-autobiographical film, I Am Nojoom, Age 10 and Divorced, released in two thousand fourteen. This poignant narrative was submitted for consideration at the Academy Awards, marking a significant milestone in her career, even though it ultimately was not selected.
