Khiuaz Dospanova

Khiuaz Dospanova, born on May fifteenth, nineteen twenty-two, was a remarkable Soviet pilot and navigator who made her mark during World War II. She served in the esteemed 588th Night Bomber Regiment, famously known as the 'Night Witches.' This unit was renowned for its daring nighttime missions, and Dospanova stood out as the first ethnically Kazakh woman officer in the Soviet Air Force.

Her journey was not without challenges. In nineteen forty-three, she suffered multiple fractures in her legs due to a ground collision. Despite the severity of her injuries and the doctors' recommendations to rest, Dospanova demonstrated extraordinary resilience by returning to active duty. Her commitment to her country and her fellow soldiers was unwavering, as she continued to participate in sorties even while recovering.

In recognition of her perseverance and contributions, she was awarded the title Hero of Kazakhstan in two thousand four. Her legacy is honored in various ways, including the naming of Atyrau International Airport in her honor, ensuring that her story and achievements will inspire future generations.
