Kijūrō Shidehara

Baron Kijūrō Shidehara, born on September thirteenth, eighteen seventy-two, emerged as a prominent figure in Japanese politics and diplomacy. Hailing from a wealthy family in Osaka, he pursued a law degree at Tokyo Imperial University, graduating in eighteen ninety-five. His career in the foreign service began shortly thereafter, leading him to various postings across Korea, Europe, and the United States, where he served as ambassador from nineteen nineteen to nineteen twenty-two.

Shidehara's political journey saw him take on the role of foreign minister twice, first from nineteen twenty-four to nineteen twenty-seven and again from nineteen twenty-nine to nineteen thirty-one. He was a staunch advocate for a non-interventionist policy in China, reflecting his commitment to pacifism, a principle he championed both before and after World War II.

Following the war, Shidehara became Japan's prime minister from nineteen forty-five to nineteen forty-six, during which he initiated significant reforms under the Allied occupation. His leadership was pivotal in shaping Japan's post-war landscape. After his tenure as prime minister, he continued to influence Japanese politics as the president of the Progressive Party and an adviser to Shigeru Yoshida.

In nineteen forty-seven, Shidehara was elected to the National Diet, aligning himself with the Liberal Party. He further solidified his political legacy by serving as the speaker of the House of Representatives from nineteen forty-nine until his passing on March tenth, nineteen fifty-one.
