Kilij Arslan I

Kilij Arslan I, born in the year 1079, was a prominent Seljuk sultan of Rûm, whose reign spanned from 1092 until his death in 1107. He ascended to power during a tumultuous period marked by the onset of the First Crusade, a time when he faced significant challenges from advancing Christian forces.

Following the death of Malik Shah I of the Seljuk Empire, Kilij Arslan played a crucial role in re-establishing the Sultanate of Rum. His leadership was characterized by resilience and strategic prowess, as he successfully led his forces against the Crusaders in three notable battles during the Crusade of 1101.

As a teenager, Kilij Arslan was not only a commander but also the first Muslim and Turkish leader to confront the Crusaders directly. His command of horse archers showcased his tactical acumen and set a precedent for future engagements in the region.
