Kim Davis

Kim Davis, born on September 17, 1965, is an American former county clerk and politician who served as the Rowan County Clerk in Kentucky from January 2015 to January 2019. She gained national attention in August 2015 when she publicly defied a federal court order to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, citing her personal religious beliefs.

After being elected in 2014, Davis's term began amid significant legal changes following the Supreme Court's decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which mandated that all county clerks in Kentucky issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
