Kim Petras

Kim Petras, born on August 27, 1992, is a German singer and songwriter who has made a significant impact on the pop music scene from her base in Los Angeles. Gaining international recognition for her transition as a teenager, she began her musical journey with the release of her EP, One Piece of Tape, in 2011. Over the years, she has penned tracks for notable artists such as Fergie, JoJo, Skylar Stecker, and Twice, showcasing her songwriting prowess.

In August 2017, Petras released her debut single, "I Don't Want It at All," which was followed by the hit single "Heart to Break" in 2018, reaching No. 52 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart. Her discography expanded with the releases of Turn Off the Light, Vol. 1, Clarity, and Turn Off the Light, all in 2019, along with the single "How It's Done," which featured on the soundtrack of Charlie's Angels. The track "Broken Glass" in 2020 further solidified her presence, charting at number 23 on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

In 2021, Petras signed with a Republic Records imprint and made history as the first out transgender artist to perform at prestigious events such as the MTV Video Music Awards and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Her 2022 album, Slut Pop, included the viral hit "Throat Goat," which gained attention during Sydney World Pride. Collaborating with Sam Smith on the track "Unholy," she achieved remarkable success, topping charts in twenty countries and winning a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, marking her as the first openly transgender woman to achieve this milestone.

Following the success of "Unholy," Petras released the single "Alone," which peaked at No. 55, and her album Feed the Beast in 2023, which reached No. 44 on the Billboard 200. She also released the album Problématique and the EP Slut Pop Miami in 2024. Despite facing challenges, including a delayed album due to label issues, Petras continues to make her mark in the industry. Her collaborations and appearances in various media, including films and series, further highlight her versatility as an artist.
