Kim Yeon-koung, born on February twenty-six, nineteen eighty-eight, is a distinguished South Korean professional volleyball player renowned for her exceptional skills as an outside hitter. She has made significant contributions to the sport, serving as the former captain of the South Korean National Team and a member of the FIVB Athletes' Commission.
Her professional journey began with Heungkuk Life in South Korea, where she played for four seasons before moving to Japan to join JT Marvelous for two seasons. In two thousand eleven, Kim signed a three-year contract with Fenerbahçe, a prominent Turkish club, and later extended her contract for an additional two years in two thousand sixteen. After a season in the Chinese Volleyball league during the two thousand seventeen to eighteen season, she returned to Turkey to play for Eczacıbaşı VitrA.
Kim's remarkable performance at the two thousand twelve London Olympics solidified her status as a volleyball legend. Despite South Korea finishing in fourth place, she was awarded the Most Valuable Player and Best Scorer titles, setting an Olympic record by scoring two hundred and seven points, surpassing the previous record of two hundred and four points held by Yekaterina Gamova.
In addition to her Olympic achievements, Kim made history as the first player in Asian volleyball to receive an MVP award in the CEV Women's Champions League. She is also recognized for her remarkable scoring ability, being the first player to have four entries in the list of those who scored thirty points or more in a single Olympic Games match.
