Kiril Petkov

Kiril Petkov, born on April seventeenth, nineteen eighty, is a prominent Bulgarian politician, economist, and entrepreneur. He served as the Prime Minister of Bulgaria from December twenty twenty-one to August twenty twenty-two. A co-founder of the political party We Continue the Change, alongside Assen Vassilev, Petkov has been a significant figure in Bulgaria's political landscape.

Raised in Sofia and born in Plovdiv, Petkov was educated by his parents, both of whom were teachers. His upbringing was enriched by the influence of his grandparents from various parts of his family. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree in finance from the University of British Columbia and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard University, equipping him with a robust foundation for his future endeavors.

Petkov and Vassilev aimed to create an anti-corruption political project that would serve as a unifying force among various parties. In late September twenty twenty-one, they formed the coalition We Continue the Change, following their temporary ministerial roles in Stefan Yanev's government. The coalition focused on combating corruption, enhancing opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises, and attracting high-tech investments.

After the twenty twenty-one Bulgarian general election, Petkov's party successfully formed a coalition with the Bulgarian Socialist Party, There is Such a People, and Democratic Bulgaria, collectively holding one hundred thirty-four seats in the two hundred forty-seat parliament. His tenure was marked by significant initiatives, including the construction of a gas interconnector from Komotini to Stara Zagora, and a strong stance in support of Ukraine during the Russian invasion.

Despite his efforts, Petkov's coalition government collapsed in June twenty twenty-two, with blame directed towards Russia and the Bulgarian mafia. His political journey reflects a commitment to reform and a vision for a more transparent and accountable governance in Bulgaria.
