Kit Coleman

Kit Coleman, born in 1864, was a pioneering Irish-Canadian journalist who made significant strides in the field of war correspondence. She is best known for her courageous reporting during the Spanish–American War in 1898, where she served as one of the earliest accredited female war correspondents for the Toronto Daily Mail.

In addition to her groundbreaking work as a war correspondent, Coleman played a vital role in advocating for women in journalism. She was the first president of the Canadian Women's Press Club, an organization dedicated to supporting and promoting the work of women journalists across Canada.

Throughout her career, Kit Coleman broke barriers and set a precedent for future generations of female journalists. Her contributions to the field not only highlighted the importance of women's voices in media but also paved the way for greater representation in journalism.
