Konrad Peutinger

Konrad Peutinger, born on October fourteenth, fourteen sixty-five, was a prominent figure in the realms of antiquarian studies, diplomacy, and archaeology. As a German humanist and jurist, he played a pivotal role in the cultural and political landscape of his time, serving as the chief archaeological adviser to Emperor Maximilian I.

In addition to his archaeological pursuits, Peutinger was a senior official in the municipal government of the Imperial City of Augsburg. His expertise and counsel were sought by both Emperor Maximilian I and his successor, Charles V, highlighting his significant influence in the imperial court.

Peutinger's passion for antiquities was matched by his dedication to collecting knowledge. Together with his wife, Margareta Welser, he amassed one of the largest private libraries north of the Alps, a testament to his commitment to preserving and promoting historical scholarship.
