Konstanty Wasyl Ostrogski

Konstanty Wasyl Ostrogski, born in the year fifteen twenty, was a prominent Ruthenian Orthodox magnate within the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. His influence extended across the Ukrainian lands during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, where he held significant positions such as starost of Volodymyr, marshal of Volhynia, and voivode of Kiev.

Ostrogski is perhaps best remembered for his role as a founder of the Ostroh Academy, a pioneering institution of higher learning that played a crucial role in the cultural and educational development of the region. His commitment to the Eastern Orthodox faith made him a key protector of the religion during a time of significant change and challenge.

In recognition of his contributions and legacy, the council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate canonized Konstanty Wasyl Ostrogski as a saint in two thousand eight. His feast day is celebrated on the twenty-sixth of February, corresponding to the thirteenth of February in the old style calendar, honoring his enduring impact on Ukrainian history and culture.
