Krzysztof Wodiczko, born on April sixteenth, nineteen forty-three, is a distinguished Polish artist whose innovative work spans multiple disciplines, including video art, photography, and performance. Renowned for his large-scale slide and video projections on architectural facades and monuments, Wodiczko has executed over eighty public projections across various countries, including Australia, Canada, Germany, and the United States.
His artistic practice delves into profound themes such as war, conflict, trauma, memory, and communication within the public sphere. Wodiczko's approach, termed Interrogative Design, merges art and technology, serving as a critical design practice that seeks to illuminate marginalized social communities and address cultural issues often overlooked in traditional design.
Currently residing in New York City, Wodiczko is a professor in residence of art and the public domain at the Harvard Graduate School of Design in Cambridge, Massachusetts. His previous role as director of the Interrogative Design Group at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) further solidified his influence in the field, where he taught in the Visual Arts Program since nineteen ninety-one.
