Goldstein's clinical expertise played a pivotal role in the establishment of The Institute for Research into the Consequences of Brain Injuries. However, his career faced a significant turning point when Adolf Hitler rose to power, forcing him to flee Germany due to his Jewish heritage.

In his new life, Goldstein authored 'The Organism' in nineteen thirty-four, a groundbreaking work that delved into the complexities of psychological disorders, particularly schizophrenia and war trauma. He explored how individuals could adapt to substantial losses in central control, emphasizing the body's remarkable capacity for readjustment.

His holistic approach led to the formulation of the principle of self-actualization, which he defined as the intrinsic drive that maximizes and shapes an individual's life path. This principle later influenced the renowned psychologist Abraham Maslow and his hierarchy of needs.
