Kurt Vile, born on January third, nineteen eighty, is an acclaimed American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is celebrated for his distinctive solo work, as well as his contributions under the name 'Kurt Vile and The Violators.' Vile's musical journey began in Philadelphia, where he created lo-fi home recordings alongside his frequent collaborator Adam Granduciel, who later became the lead guitarist for the rock band The War on Drugs.
Vile's discography showcases his evolution as an artist, starting with his early albums, 'Constant Hitmaker' and 'God Is Saying This to You...' released in two thousand eight and two thousand nine, respectively. These albums compiled various home recordings dating back to two thousand three. In two thousand nine, he signed with Matador Records and released 'Childish Prodigy,' marking his first studio album with the full participation of the Violators.
His fourth studio album, 'Smoke Ring for My Halo,' released in two thousand eleven, significantly boosted his visibility in the music scene. This was followed by 'Wakin on a Pretty Daze' in two thousand thirteen, and 'B'lieve I'm Goin Down...' in two thousand fifteen, which featured the hit single 'Pretty Pimpin.' Vile's collaboration with Australian artist Courtney Barnett resulted in the album 'Lotta Sea Lice' in two thousand seventeen, further expanding his artistic reach.
In two thousand eighteen, he released 'Bottle It In,' followed by the country-influenced EP 'Speed, Sound, Lonely KV' in two thousand twenty. His ninth studio album, '(watch my moves),' was recorded primarily at his home studio during the COVID-19 lockdowns in two thousand twenty-two. Tragically, in May two thousand twenty-three, Vile lost his longtime bandmate Rob Laakso to cholangiocarcinoma. That same year, he released the EP 'Back to Moon Beach,' showcasing his resilience and creativity.
In two thousand twenty-four, Vile will make a guest appearance on the children's television show 'Yo Gabba Gabbaland,' portraying the character King Silly and performing the song 'King Silly March.'
