Kye Sun-hui

Kye Sun-hui, born on August second, nineteen seventy-nine in Pyongyang, is a distinguished North Korean judoka who has made her mark in the world of judo. Her remarkable journey began when she entered the Olympic arena, where she showcased her exceptional talent and determination.

Throughout her illustrious career, Kye achieved the remarkable feat of winning three Olympic medals across different weight classes in the years nineteen ninety-six, two thousand, and two thousand four. Notably, her gold medal victory at the Atlanta Olympics in nineteen ninety-six made her the youngest gold medalist in judo history. This achievement was particularly surprising, as she had entered the Games through the wild card system, capturing the attention of the sports world.

In two thousand eight, Kye competed for the fourth time at the Summer Olympics held in Beijing. However, her performance did not meet the high expectations set by her previous successes. Despite this setback, her legacy in judo remains significant.

In recognition of her contributions to the sport, Kye has been honored with the Kim Il Sung Prize, along with the prestigious titles of People's Athlete and Labor Hero, reflecting her status as a celebrated figure in North Korea.
