Timothy Lee McKenzie, known professionally as Labrinth, is a British singer, songwriter, composer, and record producer born on January 4, 1989. He first gained recognition in 2010 after signing with Simon Cowell's Syco Music, where he collaborated with the English rapper Tinie Tempah. Labrinth's early contributions included uncredited work on the single 'Pass Out' and an official feature on 'Frisky'. His debut solo single, 'Let the Sun Shine', released in September of the same year, marked the beginning of his ascent in the music industry, with all three tracks reaching the top five on the UK Singles Chart.
In 2012, Labrinth released his debut album, 'Electronic Earth', which peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart and produced four top five singles. His single 'Beneath Your Beautiful' not only topped the UK charts but also made its way into the top forty of the US Billboard Hot 100, earning him a nomination for Best British Single at the Brit Awards. The release of 'Jealous' in November 2014 further solidified his status, as it was later certified Platinum in the UK.
In 2018, Labrinth formed the supergroup LSD alongside Australian singer Sia and American DJ Diplo, releasing their self-titled debut album the following year. His work on the HBO drama series 'Euphoria' began in 2019, where he composed the Season 1 Official Score, earning two Primetime Emmy Award nominations and winning one for the single 'All for Us'. His second album, 'Imagination & the Misfit Kid', followed in November, and he continued to contribute to 'Euphoria' with the Season 2 Official Score released in April 2022, which garnered him additional Emmy nominations for the songs 'I'm Tired' and 'Elliot's Song', co-written with Zendaya.
Recognized as one of the most significant British musicians of his generation, Labrinth has collaborated with a plethora of artists, including Beyoncé, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Kanye West, and the Weeknd. His production work on the Weeknd's album 'Beauty Behind the Madness' earned him a Grammy Award nomination for Album of the Year. Additionally, he co-produced the soundtrack for 'The Lion King: The Gift' and co-wrote the single 'Spirit' with Beyoncé and Ilya Salmanzadeh, receiving nominations at the Grammy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.
