Lady Triệu

Lady Triệu, also known as Triệu Ẩu or Triệu Thị Trinh, was a formidable female warrior who emerged in the third century in Vietnam. She is celebrated for her fierce resistance against the Chinese Eastern Wu dynasty, embodying the spirit of defiance and national pride.

Her aspirations were grand and bold, as she famously declared, "I want to ride storms, kill orcas in the open sea, drive out the aggressors, reconquer the country and undo the ties of serfdom, not to bend my back to be the concubine of whatever man." This powerful statement reflects her determination to liberate her homeland and challenge the status quo.

Lady Triệu's uprising is often regarded as a significant chapter in Vietnam's long struggle for independence, symbolizing the enduring fight against foreign domination. Her legacy continues to inspire generations, highlighting the role of women in the quest for freedom.

In Vietnamese history, she is affectionately referred to as Lệ Hải Bà Vương, which translates to "beautiful sea's lady king." This title not only honors her warrior spirit but also her connection to the land and sea she fought to protect.
