Lanfranc

Lanfranc, born in the year one thousand five, was an influential Italian-born English churchman, monk, and scholar. His early life in Italy set the stage for a remarkable journey that would see him become a pivotal figure in the religious landscape of England.

After moving to Normandy, Lanfranc embraced the monastic life as a Benedictine monk at Bec Abbey. His dedication and intellect quickly propelled him through the ranks, first serving as prior of Bec Abbey and later as abbot of St Stephen's Abbey in Caen. His leadership and theological acumen caught the attention of William the Conqueror, leading to his appointment as Archbishop of Canterbury following the Norman conquest of England.
