Larry Carriere, born on January 30, 1952, is a distinguished Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman and executive. He was selected in the second round, twenty-fifth overall, by the Buffalo Sabres during the 1972 NHL Amateur Draft. Over the course of his career, Carriere showcased his skills in the National Hockey League, playing for teams such as the Sabres, Atlanta Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Los Angeles Kings, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
Throughout his NHL journey, Carriere participated in three hundred sixty-seven games, where he netted sixteen goals and contributed seventy-four assists. His on-ice contributions were significant, but his impact extended beyond his playing days.
After retiring from professional play, Carriere dedicated two decades to the Sabres as a scout and executive, followed by five years in a similar role with the Washington Capitals. His expertise in player evaluation led him to the Montreal Canadiens, where he joined as assistant general manager and director of player personnel on July 16, 2010. He transitioned to an assistant coaching role on December 17, 2011.
In June 2017, Carriere was appointed general manager of the Laval Rocket while continuing his responsibilities with the Canadiens. However, he stepped down from the Rocket position after one year and was succeeded as assistant general manager by Trevor Timmins. Carriere remained a senior advisor with the Canadiens until the conclusion of the 2019-20 season, at which point his contract was not renewed.
