Larry Elder, born on April 27, 1952, is a prominent American conservative political commentator and talk radio host. He is best known for hosting The Larry Elder Show, which originated as a local program on KABC in Los Angeles in nineteen ninety-four. The show enjoyed a successful run until two thousand eight, followed by a second stint on KABC from two thousand ten to two thousand fourteen. Nationally syndicated, Elder's show reached audiences through ABC Radio Networks from two thousand two to two thousand seven and later through Salem Media Group from two thousand fifteen to two thousand twenty-two.
In addition to his radio career, Elder is a former attorney and a prolific writer, having authored several nonfiction books, including As Goes California: My Mission to Rescue the Golden State and Save the Nation. He also pens a nationally syndicated column through Creators Syndicate. While he is widely recognized as a conservative, Elder identifies as a 'small l libertarian,' advocating for limited government intervention with the belief that 'a government that governs less governs best.'
Elder's political ambitions took shape in twenty twenty-one when he ran as a Republican candidate in the recall election against California's Democratic governor, Gavin Newsom. Although the recall was ultimately defeated, Elder emerged as the leading candidate among those vying for replacement. On April 20, twenty twenty-three, he announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the twenty twenty-four presidential election, although he later withdrew from the race on October 26.
