Larry Nassar

Larry Nassar, born on August 16, 1963, is a former osteopathic physician who gained notoriety as a convicted serial sex offender. He served as the team doctor for the United States women's national gymnastics team from 1996 to 2014, a position he exploited to perpetrate heinous acts against numerous young athletes. His actions are at the center of one of the largest sexual abuse scandals in sports history.

During his tenure at Michigan State University from 1997 to 2016, Nassar faced multiple allegations of inappropriate behavior from student athletes. An extensive investigation that began in 2016 culminated in his arrest, revealing that he had sexually assaulted at least two hundred sixty-five young women and girls over a span of twenty-two years, all under the guise of medical treatment.

On December 7, 2017, Nassar was sentenced to sixty years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges of possession of child pornography and tampering with evidence. Subsequently, on January 24, 2018, he received an additional sentence of forty to one hundred seventy-five years in Michigan for seven counts of sexual assault. Just days later, on February 5, 2018, he was sentenced to another forty to one hundred twenty-five years for three more counts of sexual assault.

The federal judge mandated that Nassar's sentences run consecutively, effectively ensuring he would spend the rest of his life in prison without the possibility of parole. In the event he survives his federal sentence, he will be transferred to a Michigan state prison to serve his state sentences concurrently.
