Lars Løkke Rasmussen, born on May fifteenth, nineteen sixty-four, is a prominent Danish politician and jurist. He has been serving as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and as the Leader of the Moderates since two thousand twenty-two. His political career is marked by two non-consecutive terms as Prime Minister of Denmark and a significant tenure as the Leader of Venstre from two thousand nine to two thousand nineteen.
Rasmussen's political journey began in nineteen ninety-four when he became a member of the Folketing. He held the position of County Mayor of Frederiksborg County from nineteen ninety-eight to two thousand one. His ministerial roles include serving as the Interior and Health Minister from November twenty-seventh, two thousand one, to November twenty-third, two thousand seven, and as Minister of Finance from November twenty-third, two thousand seven, until April two thousand nine, under Anders Fogh Rasmussen's cabinets.
On April fifth, two thousand nine, he succeeded Anders Fogh Rasmussen as Prime Minister after the latter's appointment as Secretary General of NATO. However, his government faced challenges, losing its parliamentary majority in the two thousand eleven general election, leading to his resignation to Queen Margrethe II. He was succeeded by Helle Thorning-Schmidt on October third, two thousand eleven.
In the two thousand fifteen general election, Rasmussen regained the premiership, forming his second cabinet exclusively with Venstre members. However, by November two thousand sixteen, he was compelled to include members from the Liberal Alliance and Conservative People's Party, resulting in his third cabinet. After a defeat in the two thousand nineteen general election, he resigned as Prime Minister on June sixth, two thousand nineteen, but continued to lead a caretaker government until a new administration was established on June twenty-seventh, two thousand nineteen.
Following his resignation as chairman of Venstre in August two thousand nineteen and his departure from the party in January two thousand twenty-one, Rasmussen founded the Moderates. This new political entity campaigned on the principle of ending bloc politics and achieved notable success, winning sixteen seats in the two thousand twenty-two Danish general election.
