Laura Dahlmeier, born on August 22, 1993, was a remarkable German biathlete whose career was marked by extraordinary achievements in winter sports. She made her debut in the World Cup during the 2012–13 season, quickly establishing herself as a formidable competitor on the international stage.
In 2014, Dahlmeier showcased her talent at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, where she began to carve her name into the annals of Olympic history. Her crowning achievement came in 2017 when she won an unprecedented five gold medals at the World Championships, a record that solidified her status as one of the sport's greats.
Her Olympic journey continued in 2018, where she made history by becoming the first woman to win both the biathlon sprint and pursuit events in the same Olympic Games. Over her illustrious career, she amassed a total of two golds and one bronze medal at the Olympics, alongside seven golds, three silvers, and five bronzes at the World Championships. Additionally, she claimed one overall World Cup title and two discipline World Cup titles.
At the young age of twenty-five, Dahlmeier announced her retirement from competitive sports in May 2019, leaving behind a legacy that inspired many. Tragically, her life was cut short when she died in a mountaineering accident in northern Pakistan on July 28, 2025.
