Laurent Dufaux

Laurent Dufaux, born on May twentieth, nineteen sixty-nine, is a former professional road cyclist who made his mark in the sport from nineteen ninety-one to two thousand four. He first gained national recognition by becoming the Swiss National Road Race champion in nineteen ninety-one. Known for his climbing abilities, Dufaux showcased his versatility by winning the hilly Züri-Metzgete one-day classic in two thousand, where he outsprinted notable competitors Jan Ullrich and Francesco Casagrande in a thrilling flat three-man group sprint finish.

Throughout his career, Dufaux achieved remarkable results in Grand Tours, securing a fourth place overall finish in both the nineteen ninety-six and nineteen ninety-nine Tour de France. His prowess was also evident in the Vuelta a España, where he finished second in nineteen ninety-six and third in nineteen ninety-seven. Additionally, he triumphed in the Tour de Romandie in nineteen ninety-eight and claimed victories in the Dauphine Libere in both nineteen ninety-three and nineteen ninety-four, while also finishing in the top five of the Tour de Suisse on two occasions.

However, Dufaux's career was not without controversy. Following the exclusion of his Festina team from the nineteen ninety-eight Tour de France due to doping allegations, he admitted to using EPO throughout that season, alongside several teammates. This confession led to a seven-month suspension for Dufaux and his fellow cyclists, including Alex Zülle, Armin Meier, Didier Rous, and Laurent Brochard, all of whom acknowledged their involvement in doping.
