Trained by her father, Prospero Fontana, Lavinia emerged as the first female career artist in Western Europe, a remarkable feat during a time when women faced significant barriers in the arts. In a unique partnership, her husband acted as her agent while also managing the upbringing of their eleven children, allowing Lavinia to focus on her artistic endeavors.
