Lavoy Allen, born on February fourth, nineteen eighty-nine, is a distinguished American former professional basketball player. He was selected as the fiftieth overall pick in the second round of the two thousand eleven NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. Despite his late start in basketball, not playing until eighth grade, Allen's talent quickly became evident.
Growing up, he was the son of a truck driver and attended Pennsbury High School, where he was coached by Oliver Aaron. His high school career set the stage for his future, as Rivals.com recognized him as the fourteenth best center in his class, while Scout.com ranked him as the one hundred tenth overall prospect. During his time at Temple, Allen made a significant impact, helping the team reach the NCAA tournament in all four seasons. He earned accolades as a three-time All-Atlantic 10 Defensive Team honoree and a two-time All-Atlantic 10 First Team recipient. Notably, in his junior year, he became the first player from Temple to average a double-double since Ollie Johnson in the nineteen seventy-one season.
In his senior year, Allen surpassed Johnny Baum to become the all-time leading rebounder in Temple history. His exceptional performance earned him the Robert V. Geasey Trophy, recognizing him as the Philadelphia Big Five Player of the Year. Coach Dunphy praised Allen, stating that he might be the smartest player he had ever coached, highlighting his basketball IQ and understanding of the game.
