Lawrence Huculak

Lawrence Huculak, born on January twenty-fifth, nineteen fifty-one, is a distinguished Greek-Catholic priest and the current Metropolitan of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Winnipeg, Canada. His journey in the clergy began in nineteen sixty-nine when he joined the Order of St. Basil the Great in Mundare, Alberta, marking the start of a lifelong commitment to his faith.

After years of dedication, Huculak was ordained a priest on August twenty-eighth, nineteen seventy-seven. His leadership qualities were recognized when he was appointed as the Eparchial Bishop of Edmonton on April third, nineteen ninety-seven. This pivotal role set the stage for his later appointment as Metropolitan of Winnipeg on January ninth, two thousand six, with his installation following on February eleventh of the same year.

Huculak holds a doctorate in eastern liturgy from the prestigious Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, which underscores his deep understanding of the liturgical traditions of the Eastern Catholic Church. As of two thousand twenty-four, he has served as a priest for forty-seven years and has been a bishop for twenty-seven years, making significant contributions to the spiritual life of his community.

In two thousand nineteen, he became the second longest-serving metropolitan archbishop of Winnipeg, following the notable Metropolitan Maxim Hermaniuk, who served for thirty-six years. His leadership was further recognized on April twenty-eighth, two thousand twenty-two, when he was named Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of Saskatoon, continuing his legacy of service within the church.
