He embarked on his musical journey in two thousand four and has since released ten studio albums and four mixtapes as a solo artist. Lecrae is also a co-founder of the influential hip-hop collective 116, which has played a significant role in shaping the genre.

His debut albums, Real Talk in two thousand four and After the Music Stops in two thousand six, were released independently and garnered critical acclaim. The turning point in his career came with his third album, Rebel, in two thousand eight, which made history as the first Christian hip-hop album to reach the top of the Billboard Top Gospel Albums chart and to enter the Billboard 200. Following the release of his fourth album, Rehab, in two thousand ten, Lecrae gained mainstream recognition, particularly after his standout performance at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards Cypher.
