Lee Sang-hwa, born on February twenty-fifth, nineteen eighty-nine, is a distinguished retired speed skater from South Korea, renowned for her exceptional prowess in sprint distances. Her remarkable career is highlighted by her triumph as a two-time Olympic champion in the 500 metres, clinching gold medals at the Vancouver Games in 2010 and the Sochi Games in 2014.

In addition to her Olympic success, Lee made her mark on the world stage by becoming the 2010 World Sprint champion. She set a world record in the women's 500 metres with an astonishing time of thirty-six point thirty-six seconds, achieved in Salt Lake City on November sixteenth, two thousand thirteen. Furthermore, she held the South Korean record in the 1000 metres from March two thousand nine until January two thousand twenty-four.

Throughout her career, Lee has earned three medals at the World Championships in the 500 metres and has consistently placed in the top three in World Cup events in this distance on four occasions. Interestingly, her first World Cup victory came in the non-Olympic distance of 100 metres. However, in the 1000 metres, she faced challenges, never finishing higher than fifth in international competitions, including her performance at the 2010 World Sprint Championships.
