Lee Young-pyo

Lee Young-pyo, born on April 23, 1977, is a distinguished former professional footballer from South Korea, celebrated for his exceptional skills as a left back. Known for his remarkable speed and dribbling abilities, Lee earned the admiration of many, including his former manager Martin Jol, who hailed him as 'the best left back in Holland'.

Lee's professional journey began at FC Seoul, previously known as Anyang LG Cheetahs, in the Korean K League. His talent quickly caught the attention of international clubs, leading to a successful two-year stint at PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands. Under the guidance of coach Guus Hiddink, who had previously led the South Korean national team during the 2002 World Cup, Lee garnered significant acclaim, ultimately being recognized as the best left back in the Netherlands after the 2004–05 season.

In August 2005, amidst fierce competition from several Serie A clubs, Lee made a high-profile transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. His international career flourished as well; on November 19, 2008, he became the seventh Korean player to achieve one hundred caps in a World Cup qualifier against Saudi Arabia. During the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, Lee showcased his leadership by captaining the national team on two occasions.

After retiring from professional play, Lee transitioned into a managerial role, taking on the position of CEO for Gangwon FC, a first-tier K League football team, starting January 1, 2021.
