Léo Taxil

Marie Joseph Gabriel Antoine Jogand-Pagès, widely recognized by his pen name Léo Taxil, was born on March 21, 1854. A prominent figure in French literature and journalism, Taxil was known for his provocative anti-Catholic and anti-clerical stance, which shaped much of his work and public persona.

Throughout his career, Taxil engaged in various forms of writing, including journalism, publishing, and novel writing. His most notorious contribution to literature is the Taxil hoax, a sensational exposé that claimed to reveal the supposed connections between Freemasonry and the Catholic Church's opposition to it.
