Léopold Eyharts

Léopold Eyharts, born on 28 April 1957 in Biarritz, Basque Country, France, is a distinguished French Brigadier General in the French Air Force, an accomplished engineer, and a notable astronaut with the European Space Agency (ESA). His journey in aviation began with his graduation from the French Air Force Academy of Salon-de-Provence in nineteen seventy-nine, followed by his training as a test pilot at the École du personnel navigant d'essais et de réception (EPNER) in Istres, which he completed in nineteen eighty-eight.

Eyharts has made significant contributions to space exploration, having flown to space on two occasions. His first mission was part of a Mir expedition, and he later participated in an International Space Station expedition. On 7 February 2008, he launched aboard the Space Shuttle mission STS-122, where he joined Expedition 16. During this mission, he played a crucial role in the installation and configuration of the Columbus European laboratory module.

His return to Earth occurred in March 2008 aboard mission STS-123, marking another successful chapter in his illustrious career. Eyharts' experiences in both military aviation and space exploration highlight his dedication to advancing human knowledge and capabilities in aeronautics.
