Levon Aronian

Levon Aronian, born on October sixth, nineteen eighty-two, is a distinguished Armenian chess grandmaster who has proudly represented the United States since two thousand twenty-one. A chess prodigy, he achieved the title of grandmaster at the young age of seventeen in two thousand. His remarkable career includes being a former blitz champion and reaching an impressive peak classical ranking of No. 2 in the FIDE world chess rankings in March two thousand fourteen, with a rating of two thousand eight hundred thirty, making him the fourth highest-rated player in history.

Throughout his illustrious career, Aronian has secured numerous prestigious titles, including the FIDE World Cup in both two thousand five and two thousand seventeen. He has been instrumental in leading the Armenian national team to victory, earning gold medals at the Chess Olympiads in two thousand six (Turin), two thousand eight (Dresden), and two thousand twelve (Istanbul), as well as at the World Team Chess Championship in Ningbo in two thousand eleven. His success in the FIDE Grand Prix from two thousand eight to two thousand ten qualified him for the Candidates Tournament for the World Chess Championship in two thousand twelve.

Aronian's prowess extends beyond traditional chess; he was crowned world champion in Chess960 in both two thousand six and two thousand seven, and in blitz chess in two thousand ten. Since the early two thousands, he has been recognized as the leading chess player in Armenia, earning celebrity status and being hailed as a national hero. In two thousand five, he was named the best sportsman of Armenia, and in two thousand nine, he received the title of Honoured Master of Sport of Armenia. His contributions to the sport were further acknowledged in two thousand twelve when he was awarded the Order of St. Mesrop Mashtots.

In February two thousand twenty-one, Aronian made the significant decision to transfer his federation from Armenia to the United States, citing insufficient government support as his primary motivation. This transition was finalized in December two thousand twenty-one, and he has since embraced his role representing the United States on the international chess stage.
