Lew Morrison, born on February 11, 1948, in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan, was a notable Canadian professional ice hockey player. Raised in Hartney, Manitoba, he made a significant impact in the world of ice hockey, playing a total of five hundred sixty-four games in the National Hockey League (NHL) for teams including the Philadelphia Flyers, Atlanta Flames, Washington Capitals, and Pittsburgh Penguins from 1969 to 1978.
Morrison's journey in hockey began with the Flin Flon Bombers in the Western Canada Hockey League, where his talent was evident. He was selected eighth overall by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 1968 NHL Amateur Draft, marking the start of his professional career. He made his debut with the Flyers' American Hockey League affiliate, the Quebec Aces, before joining the Flyers for the 1969–70 season.
After three successful seasons with the Flyers, Morrison was claimed by the expansion Atlanta Flames in 1972, where he played for two seasons. His career continued with the Washington Capitals, albeit briefly, before he was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he concluded his playing days over the next four years.
In recognition of his contributions to the sport, Morrison was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in 2017. He passed away on July 15, 2023, at the age of seventy-five, leaving behind a legacy in Canadian ice hockey.
