Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Lewis Armistead

Lewis Armistead, born on February 18, 1817, was a distinguished military officer whose career spanned both the United States Army and the Confederate States Army during the tumultuous years of the American Civil War.

As a brigadier general in the Confederate Army, Armistead is perhaps best remembered for his pivotal role in Pickett's Charge at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863. Leading his brigade, he reached what is now known as the high-water mark of the Confederacy, a moment that marked the zenith of Confederate military ambition.

Despite his bravery and leadership, Armistead and his men faced overwhelming resistance from Union forces. In the heat of battle, he was wounded and subsequently captured, a fate that would lead to his demise just two days later in a field hospital.
