Li Dazhao

Li Dazhao, born on October twenty-ninth, eighteen eighty-nine, emerged as a pivotal figure in early twentieth-century China. Hailing from a peasant family in Hebei province, he pursued education in modern schools and later at Waseda University in Japan. His intellectual journey led him to become a chief librarian and professor of history at Peking University, where he played a crucial role during the New Culture Movement, fostering a vibrant environment for Marxist discourse.

As a co-founder of the Chinese Communist Party in nineteen twenty-one alongside Chen Duxiu, Li was among the first Chinese intellectuals to embrace Bolshevism and the October Revolution. His writings and mentorship significantly influenced a generation of young radicals, including the future leader Mao Zedong. Li's adaptation of Marxism to the Chinese context emphasized the revolutionary potential of the peasantry, arguing that China could bypass a full capitalist stage due to its status as a
