Liliyana Natsir

Liliyana Natsir, born on September ninth, nineteen eighty-five, is a distinguished Indonesian badminton player renowned for her exceptional skills in doubles. Throughout her illustrious career, she has achieved remarkable success, including a gold and a silver medal at the Olympic Games, alongside four gold medals at the BWF World Championships. In recognition of her contributions to the sport, Natsir was inducted into the BWF Hall of Fame in two thousand twenty-two.

Her journey to the top of the badminton world saw her ranked as the number one player in mixed doubles with two different partners. Partnering with Nova Widianto, she clinched the gold medal at the World Championships in two thousand five and two thousand seven, as well as the World Cup in two thousand six and the Asian Championships in the same year. Their partnership also earned them a silver medal at the two thousand eight Beijing Olympics.

Later, Natsir teamed up with Tontowi Ahmad, and together they achieved significant milestones, including winning the BWF World Championships in two thousand thirteen and two thousand seventeen, and the Asian Championships in two thousand fifteen. Their crowning achievement came in two thousand sixteen when they secured the gold medal at the Rio Olympics, making them the first Indonesian mixed doubles pair to do so.

As the second Indonesian woman to win an Olympic gold medal, following Susi Susanti in nineteen ninety-two, Natsir paved the way for future generations, including Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu, who followed in her footsteps in two thousand twenty-one. Among her numerous accolades, she boasts three consecutive titles at the All England Open from two thousand twelve to two thousand fourteen, and she holds the record for the highest number of BWF World Championship titles in mixed doubles.
