Linda Bond, born on June 22, 1946, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada, has made significant contributions to the Salvation Army, serving as its 19th General. Her journey within the organization began with international service, leading to various promotions that showcased her leadership and dedication.
In 2008, Bond took on the role of territorial commander of the Australian Eastern Territory, a position that further solidified her influence within the Salvation Army. On January 31, 2011, she was elected by the High Council to become the next General, officially assuming office on April 2, 2011. This historic election made her the third woman and fourth Canadian to hold this esteemed position, following in the footsteps of notable predecessors General Evangeline Booth and General Eva Burrows.
In recognition of her impactful work, Bond received an honorary degree from Tyndale University College and Seminary in late 2012. However, in a surprising turn of events, she announced her retirement on June 13, 2013, effective immediately, marking the end of a remarkable chapter in her life and career.
