Linda Duncan

Linda Duncan, born on June twenty-fifth, nineteen forty-nine, is a distinguished Canadian lawyer and former politician known for her commitment to environmental issues. She served as the Member of Parliament for Edmonton Strathcona from two thousand eight until two thousand nineteen, representing the New Democratic Party. Notably, she was the only non-Conservative MP from Alberta during the period from two thousand eight to two thousand fifteen.

Before embarking on her political career, Duncan founded and led the Environmental Law Center, where she practiced as an environmental lawyer in Edmonton until nineteen eighty-seven. Her career then took her to Ottawa, where she worked for Environment Canada, further solidifying her expertise in environmental law.

Duncan's academic contributions include teaching environmental law at Dalhousie Law School, now known as the Schulich School of Law. Her international experience includes advising the Government of Indonesia on environmental assessment and enforcement, as well as serving in Whitehorse as an assistant deputy in the Yukon government. She also consulted with Kluane First Nation and held the position of Head Law and Enforcement for the NAFTA's Commission for Environmental Cooperation in Montreal.

In addition to her professional roles, Duncan has been actively involved in environmental advocacy, serving on the Board of Directors for the Sierra Legal Defence Fund, which is now known as Ecojustice Canada. Her multifaceted career reflects her dedication to both law and environmental sustainability.
