Linda M. Godwin

Linda M. Godwin, born on July second, nineteen fifty-two, is a distinguished American scientist and retired NASA astronaut. Her journey with NASA began in nineteen eighty, and she officially became an astronaut in July nineteen eighty-six. Over the course of her remarkable career, Godwin completed four space flights, accumulating more than thirty-eight days in the vastness of space.

In addition to her impressive flight experience, Godwin held a significant role as the assistant to the director for exploration within the Flight Crew Operations Directorate at the Johnson Space Center. This position allowed her to contribute to the advancement of space exploration and astronaut training.

Notably, Godwin made history as the first woman to conduct spacewalks outside two different space stations: the Mir space station in March nineteen ninety-six and the International Space Station in December two thousand one. Her pioneering efforts have paved the way for future generations of female astronauts.

After retiring from NASA in two thousand ten, Godwin transitioned to academia, accepting a position as a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Missouri. Her dedication to education and research continues to inspire students and aspiring scientists alike.
