Lisa Fernandez

Lisa Fernandez, born on February twenty-second, nineteen seventy-one, is a distinguished American former softball player and the current associate head coach at UCLA. With a remarkable career that includes being a three-time medal-winning Olympian with Team USA, she has made significant contributions to the sport of softball.

During her collegiate years at UCLA from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety-three, Fernandez excelled as both a pitcher and third baseman. Her impressive achievements include being a two-time national champion and a four-time first team All-American. She still holds several UCLA records, including career shutouts, WHIP, and winning percentage, showcasing her dominance on the field.

Fernandez's Olympic journey is equally impressive, as she established a record with twenty-five strikeouts in a single game while representing the United States women's national softball team. Notably, she pitched in three consecutive gold medal games, securing a save in nineteen ninety-six, delivering an extra-inning shutout in two thousand, and ultimately clinching the gold medal in two thousand four with a five to one victory.

Recognized as the #1 Greatest College Softball Player, Fernandez's legacy is further solidified by her induction into the USA Softball Hall of Fame. In addition to her coaching role, she is set to serve as the general manager of the Utah Talons for the inaugural twenty twenty-five season of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League (AUSL).
