Lise Meloche, born in Ottawa in nineteen sixty, embarked on her athletic journey with a focus on alpine skiing and sprint kayaking. Her early achievements included winning the junior national championships K2 in nineteen seventy-nine, showcasing her potential as a competitive athlete. Shortly thereafter, she shifted her focus to cross-country skiing, representing Canada in nineteen eighty-three.
In nineteen eighty-four, Meloche made a pivotal transition to biathlon, where she quickly established herself as a dominant force in women's biathlon, both in North America and on the global stage. Over the course of nearly eight years, she became the first Canadian to secure a world cup gold medal in biathlon, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Meloche's tenure on the national team spanned from nineteen eighty-three to nineteen ninety-five, during which she participated in over two hundred World Cups and competed in two Olympic Games in nineteen ninety-two and nineteen ninety-four. Her impressive accolades include four World Cup gold medals and seven additional medals across various events, with her best Olympic finish being seventeenth place in Lillehammer.
In twenty twenty-two, Meloche continued to excel, winning two gold and two silver medals at the World Masters Cross Country Skiing Championships. Beyond her athletic accomplishments, she is a kinesiologist and educator, co-authoring the national cross-country skiing manual and coaching certification. Meloche has also published numerous books and videos focused on physical and mental conditioning and skills training.
Today, she remains active in skiing, trail running, and snowshoeing, while also coaching the largest multi-sport program in Canada, Natural Fitness Lab, alongside her husband, a national champion in his own right.
