Ljudevit, also known as Liudewit or Ljudevit Posavski, was a prominent Duke of the Slavs in Lower Pannonia, reigning from eight hundred ten to eight hundred twenty-three. His capital was situated in Sisak, a location that is now part of modern-day Croatia. As a leader of the Pannonian Slavs, Ljudevit was notable for his fierce resistance against the encroaching Frankish domination.
Despite his efforts, Ljudevit ultimately faced defeat in the conflict against the Franks, who were supported by Borna, the Duke of Guduscani, Dalmatia, and Liburnia. Following this loss, he sought refuge in an unidentified Serbian župa, a subject that has sparked considerable historical debate. In a desperate act, he killed the presiding Serbian župan during his time there.
After this tumultuous episode, Ljudevit fled to the Dalmatian Duke Ljudemisl. However, his fate took a tragic turn when he was ultimately killed by Ljudemisl, marking a dramatic end to his tumultuous life and reign.
