James Todd Smith, widely recognized by his stage name LL Cool J, was born on January 14, 1968. He emerged as a pioneering figure in hip-hop, achieving commercial success alongside iconic acts like Run-DMC. LL Cool J's career took off after signing with Def Jam Recordings in 1984, with his breakout single 'I Need a Beat' paving the way for his debut album, 'Radio', released in 1985.
Throughout his illustrious career, LL Cool J has released several critically acclaimed albums, including 'Bigger and Deffer' (1987), 'Walking with a Panther' (1989), and the Grammy-winning 'Mama Said Knock You Out' (1990). From 2009 to 2023, he portrayed NCIS Special Agent Sam Hanna in the CBS series 'NCIS: Los Angeles', and he reprised this role in 'NCIS: Hawaiʻi' (2023–2024) and 'NCIS' (2025). He also hosted the popular show 'Lip Sync Battle' on Paramount Network.
