Lodewijk Asscher, born on September twenty-seventh, nineteen seventy-four, is a prominent Dutch jurist and politician. He has made significant contributions to the Labour Party (PvdA), serving as its leader from two thousand sixteen to two thousand twenty-one and as the parliamentary leader in the House of Representatives from two thousand seventeen to two thousand twenty-one.

Asscher's academic journey began at the University of Amsterdam, where he worked as a researcher from nineteen ninety-six until two thousand two. His political career took off when he was elected as a municipal councillor in Amsterdam on March eighth, two thousand two, and he became the leader of the Labour Party in the municipal council on April third, two thousand four.

In two thousand six, he was the lijsttrekker for the PvdA in the municipal election and subsequently became Deputy Mayor and alderman on April twenty-sixth. Following the resignation of Mayor Job Cohen in two thousand ten, Asscher served as the ad interim Mayor of Amsterdam from March twelfth to July seventh of that year.
