Logan Thompson, born on February twenty-fifth, nineteen ninety-seven, is a talented Canadian professional ice hockey player who currently serves as a goaltender for the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL). His journey began in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Brandon Wheat Kings, where he showcased his skills before going undrafted.
After his junior career, Thompson honed his craft in U Sports, the ECHL, and the American Hockey League (AHL). In two thousand twenty, he signed his first NHL contract with the Vegas Golden Knights. His perseverance paid off as he spent two years primarily with the AHL's Henderson Silver Knights, but it was during the 2021–22 season that he made headlines by becoming the first former U Sports goaltender to start an NHL game in over thirty years.
Thompson's rise continued as he took over as the starting goaltender for the Golden Knights in the 2022–23 season. His exceptional performance earned him a spot as an NHL All-Star in two thousand twenty-three, and he played a crucial role in leading Vegas to win the Stanley Cup that same year, despite facing injuries late in the season.
After one more season with the Golden Knights, Thompson was traded to the Washington Capitals, where he quickly established himself as their starting goaltender and signed a six-year contract extension. On the international stage, he has proudly represented Canada, winning silver medals at the 2022 World Championship and the 2026 Winter Olympics.
